2: To Jackson (Grand Teton National Park), WY (270 mi/434 km)

Travel to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, gateway to Grand Teton National Park where snowcapped,

snaggle-toothed peaks are the quintessential mountain range of America. The processes of the geologic past are fascinating; the active Teton fault and super volcano, Yellowstone, have created a dynamic land that is constantly changing. Wildlife is commonly seen – watch for bison, elk, deer and moose.

Spend the next two days enjoying and exploring Yellowstone National Park, the world’s first national park. The park is a geothermal wonder and you can see spectacular alpine lakes and rivers, geysers, mud caldrons and bubbling paint pots of worldwide fame. A must see is the famous geyser “Old Faithful” that, amazingly, erupts on a set schedule. This is also home to a rich variety of wildlife including eagle, falcons, reintroduced wolves, bears, bison, deer and elk.

2 nights Yellowstone National Park, WY

6: To “Little Bighorn Battlefield” & Sheridan, WY (150 mi/241 km)

On your journey to Sheridan visit the Little Bighorn Battlefield, the national monument that commemorates the epic battle known as “Custer’s Last Stand”. Then on to Sheridan where you’ll find plenty of western flavor in the shops, taverns and restaurants.

7: To Rapid City, SD (246 mi/395 km)

Continue east to the beautiful Black Hills with perhaps a stop in the Wild West Town of Deadwood or the imposing Crazy Horse Memorial. Overnight in Rapid City near famous Mount Rushmore and the dramatic Badlands.
